Just a five-minute walk from the shopping centre, a convenient base to view central Victoria. Spacious rooms designed for single, double and family accomodation. Moderate rates. A brief history... The building was constructed in 1886 by Andrew Campbell, a timber merchant, who came to the Colony from Scotland in the early 1850's. Andrew Campbell built Campbell House for Mr. John Crozier, a schoolmaster, who conducted a private Grammer School for 10 years. Andrew Campbell lived and died in the adjoining house which he built in 1882 as a private family residence. The next owner was W. Ross Anderson, a police magistrate (1886-1898). In approximately 1922, Andrew Campbell's son William bought the residence for use as a boarding house, and at this stage it was named Campbell House. After the death of William, his wife Florence continued to run the boarding house until 1955. Since this date, Campbell House was used for private purposes and as a private residence, until 1980, when the building was transformed to it's present state, the Campbell Motor Lodge. |
